My name is Britt. I’m a public writer and a multidisciplinary creative professional.
I come from an ancestry of hard workers, men and women alike. They are immigrants, farmers, entrepreneurs, leaders, artists, activists, feminists, and survivors of varying kinds (of poverty, of abuse, of discrimination, of war, etc.).
Despite the struggles, I have found my way (even while the U.S. has been battling its own relationship with democracy). I graduated from high school with honors. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a major in English and a minor in print journalism, while I co-ran nationally-renowned student newspaper The Minnesota Daily and wrote for newspapers such as the St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Southwest and Downtown Journals, and served as a legislative correspondent for the Winona Daily News. I have won more than a dozen awards and honors for my writing, including from the New York Times Foundation and the national Society of Professional Journalists. My writing has appeared in the Associated Press, the Star Tribune, Yahoo Finance and nytimes.com, as well as in community news outlets such as the St. Cloud Times, the Savage Pacer, the Duluth News Tribune, High Plains Drifter, Minneapolis Lakes Lifestyle, Patch, Savvy Magazine and ROI Magazine. I also worked in public relations, where my press releases landed segments and stories in local affiliates of ABC, NBC and CBS, as well as WCCO, Kare 11, the Chicago Tribune, the Star Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Most recently, I’ve worked in marketing departments at large companies such as Thomson Reuters, Elevance Health, Optum Insight and Change Healthcare.
I feel very fortunate to have had all of these opportunities. When I’m not working, I spend time with my friends and family, enjoy cafes and restaurants, explore parks, read and write poetry, and cuddle my two cats, Mittens and Jupiter.
